Alligators in September

In funny ha ha on Wednesday, 9 November, 2011 at 11:52

As long as you’re familiar with the format of Family Feud, these should make sense, and moreover, be a hoot. Back in the day, I was more of a Press Your Luck fan (we even made our own boards on paper at home), but I remember Richard Dawson quite fondly. (Man, game shows then were great. And quite innocent, no snark, no innuendo, no irony, etc.) I know we’re talking about game show hosts, but Richard has to be one of the best. As you see here, he is not afraid to poke fun at the contestants, but it is never mean-spirited. He is always congenial (and if you find some outtakes, he can be very emotional), although today, the kissing would probably get him in trouble, sadly. I don’t watch game shows now, but I’m sure there are few, if any, as charismatic.

The first two are from the Fast Money Round, the last three are from regular game play. The first, third, and fifth are more typical Richard Dawson, where his jabs are dry and he mostly holds it together despite the idiocy, the second and fourth are more notable because those are the rare times he just lost it. ANd as we all know, laughter is contagious. Hopefully you watch them somewhere where you don’t have to stifle yours. Jesus Christ, I haven’t laughed so much in a long while.

“Ethyl!”

“Oh, to hell with that!”

“…if anyone mentions anything like birthdays or weddings….”

“18!”
