Sammy the Seal

“What side is this, anyway?”

Song: Moth’s Wings
Artist: Passion Pit
Album: Manners

I prefer this bit of twinkling, swirling pop as a great change-up against the dance-y, more beat-driven songs that comprise most of the rest of the album. The sound is open-aired, not at all contained, with a little bombast, even, but it’s got extra nuance too. The song title is apropos, the music does flutter about like insect wings. I can’t help but think of dusk hearing this, so maybe lightning bugs. That, or people chasing each other around with sparklers. And when they’re done playing, they lie on a blanket and look up at the sky. (“Put down your sword and crown, come lay with me on the ground”– I guess they’re wearing paper hats, too.)

If you try it, remember to be safe and make sure your sparklers don’t set anything on fire.
