“I haven’t been the same”

Song: Nobody But Me
Artist: Save Ferris
Album: It Means Everything

Here’s the goddamned rain again, but fortunately this song is gloom-proof. The 90s trend of co-opting ska into rock and punk music was, at best, a mixed bag, but Save Ferris certainly had exuberance, style, and, well, some chops, of course, in their favor. Their lyrics in general, though, leave much to be desired (which is hard to ignore), but very fortunately, Monique Powell has such a strong, expressive, direct voice that lends the often unremarkable lyrical conceits some credibility (even when singing about Spam), and the groove they’re locked in to is too infectious to get hung up on anything else. I don’t mean to nitpick, this song’s all feel-good.
